DIY Stag Mirror

I fell in love with this octagon mirror the moment my sister-in-law asked if I wanted it. When I got the mirror home, I decided the best way to cover the dated rose border would be to flip the traditional etched design and use my image as the mirrored area. I think it gives the mirror a modern look! I choose the stag image, because I’m planning on transforming my drab bedroom into a romantic woodsy hideaway.

Before:
After:

Here is what I did:

I found a stag silhouette and blew it up to size, then used double stick tape to adhere it to the back of a piece of contact paper, and cut out the image.

I took the mirror out of the frame, cleaned the mirror surface and allowed to dry. Then I removed the contact paper backing, positioned the silhouette image on the mirror and slid a credit card over it to insure a clean edge.

Then I applied 3 coats of Rust-oleum frosted glass to the mirror, according to the product's directions.

In the meantime I sanded the mirror frame and spray painted it grey.

Lastly I placed the mirror back into the frame, peeled off the contact paper and stepped back to admire my new mirror!

Total time: a few hours, not including time for the paint to dry
Total cost: under $10
