**Attention Readers: As of 1/24/14 all printables are first come first serve. I apologize for the inconvenience, but I had to end my Box membership, so they will only allow a set number of downloads per month. Once I’m moved and have settled in to my new home, I should be able to once again afford the monthly fees. In the mean time please come back at the first of the month and try downloading. Media Storage + Free Inventory Printable

Organizing all of your media makes life so much easier, ensuring that you aren't searching endlessly for "Sherlock Holmes" every time you get the itch to watch it.
In January I shared my DVD/Blu-Ray OrganizingLabels, which have worked well for me over the years. Unfortunately when I recently switched to a new media cabinet I needed to find another solution that took up less space.
All those bulky movie cases take up a crazy amount of room, especially if you’re like us and own 391 movie titles!  We decided to ditch the ugly cases and find a cute organized alternative. At first I had my heart set on the Acrylic Media Boxes that I spotted at one of my favorite happy places, The Container Store. After finding out through the product reviews that they only store up to 100 dvd's rather than 120 I decided to purchase "Leather" DVD Towers instead.

I love that these nice-looking faux leather cases hold 200 dvd's/video games and yet take up little cabinet space. The only downside is they are pricey, but with a 5% off code (KH05) and free shipping I saved $17.93 on two towers, compared to 4 media boxes from The Container Store.

I alphabetized all of our movies and created a media inventory, so I always know where to find whatever movie I am in the mood for! Adding a new movie is a breeze; I just slide it into a sleeve and add it to the inventory. I’m saving money and trees by laminating the inventory and writing in new tittles rather than reprinting it every time I add a new movie. Lastly, if I know there is a sequel coming out soon I’ll leave some extra space for it.

My living room looks streamlined and the piles of dvd cases are gone! And it’s never hard to find a movie in the dvd towers because we always have our media inventory to reference!

  1. This looks so great and I can't believe how much space it saves! What did you do with all the cases? Do you miss not having the liners? I've been thinking of doing something like this but I'm worried we'd want the liners sometime.

    1. Hi Hilda!
I placed the empty cases on Freecycle, but if no one needs them then I will contact my neighborhood library and recycling center. As for the liners I don’t really miss them. Most of the disks are easy to read and for others that aren’t, we have the inventory. My favorite part is my husband actually puts the movies away. :)
