I posted a note last week explaining the current
download limit, but I’ve had several comments so I thought I would write a
quick post answering your questions. First let me apologize for the inconvenience.
I'm moving in March and finances are tight so I had to stop my Box membership
for the time being. Box will only let a set number of people download each
month. I know it’s a pain, but I have
yet to find a cheaper alternative than Box and I just can’t afford $100+ right
this second. Thank you for your patience and as soon as I get settled in my new
home and have started my new job I’ll re-up my membership.

I’m sorry I haven’t posted for a while, but my life has taken an interesting shift and my husband and I are planning a HUGE move at the beginning of the year. This requires sorting everything we own and selling a lot of it and packing up only what we truly need and love. Downsizing is a good thing, but it’s very time consuming and downright draining. I’ll try to post when I can, but my focus for the next few months will be on packing and juggling my massive to-do list. Thank you for your patience!

I've needed to organize my fridge for forever, but let’s face it I like cleaning out my fridge about as much as I enjoy scrubbing toilets. Nothing can motivate me to clean more than a little organizational eye candy, in this case fridge coasters which are not only stylish but also keep your refrigerator cleaner for longer.

I have been drooling over the coasters for months, but being a renter {who wants to move ASAP} I could never justify spending $50 for something that might not fit in my next fridge.

So I attempted to make my own out of cheap plastic placemats, and if I had glass shelves they would have worked perfectly. But no removable adhesive that I tried would keep the mats from sliding around on my wire shelves.

I gave up on the idea until I came across rolls of non-slip vinyl liner at the Dollar Tree. They are the perfect length to tuck under each side of the shelf, and the weight of the shelf keeps them in place! I love the vinyl because it can be machine washed in the event of spills and doesn't need to be replaced as often as the fridge coasters!

I didn't want to stop prettying up my refrigerator, so I bought fridge bins at Costco and made adorable faux chalkboard labels to mark all of my fridge contents. After laminating both sides of the labels, I attached them to the bins using Velcro dots. I love the results!

If this has inspired you to organize your own fridge here are a few tips:

Don't over-pack your fridge – Air needs to circulate to stay cool, so over-stuffing your refrigerator with food can create a variance in temperature. The ideal refrigerator temperature is 40°F {5°C} or below to preserve your food and prevent harmful bacteria from growing.

Never mix fruits and veggies with meat – Contamination leads
to spoilage! I keep my meat and seafood in a fridge bin on the bottom shelf, to
keep those yucky juices from leaking and contaminating other foods.

Don't Store eggs and milk in the fridge door – Door temperatures fluctuate a lot, so avoid storing quick to expire items
in the fridge door. The bottom shelf is the best location for milk, because it is usually the coldest but this may vary from fridge to
fridge.

Don't put uncovered food in the refrigerator – If left
uncovered foods can dry out or absorb odors from other foods. Allow hot food to cool down before covering
and moving it to the refrigerator.

Don’t slice food until you’re ready to use it – Chopped
meat, fruit and veggies spoil faster than whole items.

Use clear containers for foods and leftovers – Seeing what foods are left makes
you more prone to eating them sooner, so store leftovers for up to 4 days in see through containers.

Keep condiments in the door – Small bottles can eat up fridge
space quickly, so storing all the condiments in the door gives you more
space inside the fridge.

Keep larger items near the back – This will help keep smaller
items from being pushed to the back where they can easily hide.

Place like items together – This will help you find items
that you need more easily.

Clean your refrigerator regularly – Wipe spills and messes when
fresh and remove expired foods. Give your fridge a deep cleaning every few months and vacuum the coils at the same time to keep your refrigerator running
efficiently.

Well, hopefully these tips make
organizing your refrigerator a little easier. I'm so happy with my cute fridge and I know you'll be just as happy with yours!

If all OTC medications came in the same size & shaped bottles then maybe it would be an attainable goal.

Trying to organizing 60 different sized bottles is hard, so I stopped worrying about it looking perfect and focused instead on containing like medications together. I came across these great storage boxes with adhesive pocket labels and bought 6 of them, one for each category of medicine: Pain Relief, Cold & Sinus, Stomach, First Aid, My Meds and My Husband’s Meds.

To Create this in your home:

Step 1: Gather all of your medication; I found bottles in almost every room of my apartment! {Having a clearly marked home for each medication will stop that from happening in the future}

Step 2: Go through and separate your medications and categorize them into groups: Pain Meds, Cold & Sinus, Stomach, etc.

Step 3: Go through each item in the box and check the expiration date, if you don’t use them or they are expired toss them. I was surprised to find that most of the medications I recently purchased had already expired. {Note to self buy smaller bottles!}

Step 4: Properly label each box and decide where you want to keep them. Medication should be stored in low humidity and at a room temperature lower than 77°F. So a pantry is preferable over a bathroom, I keep mine in my 1/2 bath only because it is colder than the rest of my apartment and the humidity is relatively low.

It’s nice knowing where everything is and not having to dig through several drawers every time I have the sniffles!

Do you have any tips for keeping your medications organized? I would love to hear your ideas.
With cookbooks, cooking magazines and Pinterest, I have a collection of several hundred recipes that I would like to try. I could save them on my computer, but chances are I would never make them; so I created this handy printable to help me keep up with all of those tempting recipes.

Now that I have a list to pick from, I try to add a new recipe to my Magnetic Menu Planner twice a month.
I've grown up nibbling on Salmonberries, Salal berries and Oregon grape, but my favorites by far are Blackberries and Thimbleberries!

While walking around my neighborhood today I found a handful of ripe Thimbleberries. The tart yet sweet fruit makes for a delicious jam, so I froze them until I have enough berries to make a jar or two.
Never heard of a Thimbleberry? They are one of the tastiest fruits in the Pacific Northwest! The soft, juicy T-berry has a taste like no other – an intense tart-sweet, with a rose flavor similar to raspberries. The small seeds leave a nutty taste as they melt in your mouth – a real treat for berry lovers!

This native bramble shrub is found from Alaska east to British Columbia and Michigan; and south to California, New Mexico and into Northwestern Mexico. What to look for - It's a thornless shrub with velvety soft maple shaped leaves, a pure white flower closely resembling blackberry blossoms, a distinct bark that peels into tiny fragments and bears ruby-red thimble shaped berries that look similar to raspberries.
I'm back thanks to a new laptop power cord! While offline I received several emails and comments asking if I could create an editable Recipe Binder that can be used without the Magnetic Menu Planner.
Hi everyone. I hope you all had an awesome long weekend! I had several printables in the works & ready to post, but my computer cord decided to finally give out on me. I just ordered a new one, so hopefully I'll be blogging again shortly. Thanks for your patience.Rebbekahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06382207283335163957noreply@blogger.com37tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2529219145735559956.post-12118476645656255062013-06-14T18:34:00.000-07:002013-06-15T10:02:48.186-07:00Free: Car Emergency Printables

Nothing can halt a summer road trip faster than a mini-crisis, if you’re not ready for it. I know it’s not an overly enjoyable subject; but what would you do if something went wrong?

We have minor bumps and scrapes covered with our DIY Car First Aid kit; But what about the dreaded fender bender? With just about everyone and their mother on the road this summer, it’s a good idea to take some advice from the Boy Scouts and BE PREPARED!

We've all been there - a distracted driver strikes your car; instantly sidelining your day, and you have to spend the next several hours exchanging insurance information, filing a police report, and taking lots of pictures.

The long list of post accident to-do’s is overwhelming even when you’re not in a mild state of shock! So what happens if you forget an important step like getting the witness's name or the police officer’s badge number?

I've been in several MVAs {I’m a magnet for bad drivers}, so an accident checklist and report form are a must for me to keep in my car! The next time a driver wants to play bumper cars with me, I won’t have to worry that I’ll forget something. Instead I can just pickup my cute clipboard and start filling out the report form with all of the important details!

I also keep two cards in my wallet for quick accesses to important medical information and emergency contacts, along with a reference list of policy numbers, auto clubs and important car and driver information.

Knowing that I have a plan in place if something did happen, allows me to fully relax and enjoy my vacation.
Yesterday was the last day of school, which means the Summer Travel Season is about to begin! I have family visiting this summer and we're all planning a little road trip. With 4 adults and 2 small children, one of us is bound to need a Band-Aid at some point, so I thought it might be a good time to put together a First Aid Kit for the car. Sure I could buy a pre-made kit, but they're so expensive and they don't have everything that I want to have available when I need it.

I already had a LOT of the items on hand {from my years of being a home health aide} and the rest I picked up at the dollar store and Walmart. The biggest challenge was finding some sort of carrier that could keep everything organized in the car.

I love how much storage room this little tackle bag has! The front pocket has four compartment boxes that hold bandages, gauze pads, cloth tape, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone ointment, an oral thermometer, tweezers and scissors. I even had enough room to include personal hygiene products in case my husband gets stuck in the snow again! The four side pockets hold our space blanket, breathing barrier, cold compress, hand warmers and non-latex gloves. While the large top storage compartment is perfect for keeping small bottles of rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, calamine lotion, witch hazel, and sunblock. Now all of my first aid supplies are stored in one compact bag and everything is organized and easily accessible in an emergency!

{download here}

Before you hit the road this summer, why not print this checklist and make your very own first aid kit for your car!
I've had several politicians ask for my vote, people of various religions trying to convert me, and countless people trying to sell me things I don’t need. After receiving 3 knocks in one day, I knew I had to stop the parade of endless intrusions. Grrrrr!

I first thought of making a wooden plaque and hanging it outside, but painting it by hand seemed a little daunting plus I didn't think it would last long against the elements. {Daydreaming about what I could make with a Silhouette}

Since I have a large pane of glass in my front door, I decided to hang a picture frame inside and avoid the issue of weatherproofing altogether. Once I had that part figured, I had to plan out what I wanted it to say. The sign had to welcome my friends and family, but also notify strangers in a nice way that they are unwelcome. Girl Scouts are the only exception, of course!

I've had my sign up for a few weeks now and so far it seems to be working because they no longer bother me!
In order to keep my apartment from being taken over by caps, it was high time I tame his collection.

I found a clever solution on Pinterest that used shower curtain c-hooks, but the majority my husband's caps are fitted so I needed to find another way to organize his caps. I had several book rings in my desk, so I decided to combine them with leftover clothes pins from my tack project. Since I already had everything on hand, this project was FREE! Besides the amazing price, I love that my husband has no more excuses because all of his hats are in one place and they are super easy to take out and put back! No more hats falling on my head when I open the entry closet!!

How To:
1) Gather supplies
2) Place clothespin in a vice and drill straight through both sides.
3) Open book rings, thread clothespins and attach to hanger.
4) Use clothespins to organize those caps!

Tip: Make sure to drill the hole low enough so you can easily open the clothespin.
I love the idea of a reward chart as a way to inspire good behavior and encourage responsibility! My mom was a teacher and she used an incentive chart both in her classroom and at home, so I am very familiar with those metallic star stickers.

When I received an email from Amanda asking if I had ever considered expanding my chore charts and developing a chore reward chart, I just had to make one and share it with all of you!

As with anything in life, planning is key to a brighter future. A financial plan provides a road map of where you want to go in life. But before you can make a plan, you need to have some goals

{download here}

An ideal family plan should have short-term (in the next 6 months), medium-term (within a year), and long-term (within 2 years) goals.

For a goal to work, it needs to be both specific and sensible. Example: I don’t want to just “buy a new car” I want to drive an Audi R8 Spyder; but an A3 is more in my price range ($100k less!) and is a realistic goal.

Once you have them all written down, you can weigh the importance of each goal and prioritize according to urgency. Then estimate how much money it will take to reach each goal and set a target date. Without a time frame you can’t really measure your progress.

When you know how much money you want to save and how much time you have to save it, you can develop an action plan for achieving your goals. There are multiple ways to achieve a goal; maybe you want to save a certain amount of money each month or find different ways to cut expenses.

Keep in mind that this is a continuing process that involves revisiting your goals periodically to ensure that they are still what you want from your life. In between reviewing and adjusting your goals, let them go! Give yourself permission to be flexible and to let go of the need to obsess over your goals.

After creating your financial plan, you will be ready to build a budget that can help you reach your goals.

* The above printable is editable so you can fill in the fields by typing instead of writing.
How do you like the new color scheme? It was the big winner in my recent Facebook poll. My husband thinks it’s a little girly, but what does he know. :)

The first week of January is when I start planning my goals for the year. I've been thinking a lot about prioritizing and figuring out how best to spend my time in 2013. Yes, there are already too many tasks that must get done each day...cleaning, organizing, etc. But this year I want to also start making time for what's important in my life.

My husband works long hours, so my top goal is spending more time with him. Carving out a block of time each day to watch a movie or play a board game with my hubby is far more crucial than scrubbing the floors for the umpteenth time.

{download here}

Above is a Weekly Schedule that I made to help you stay on top of where you need to be, which tasks must get done, and help keep track of how many glasses of water you're drinking and if you've worked out that day. I know not everyone works 9-5; so after downloading and opening the PDF file, you can type your own times into the editable fields.

This printable would work well in a Household Binder or even framed and placed in a central part of your home, like on the refrigerator. Enjoy!

I try my best to send them out by December 1st, but that usually doesn't happen. I made printable wrap-around labels for those of us who are fashionably late with our cards. No more endless hand writing, now I can copy the addresses from my Christmas card list and paste them directly into the labels.

Addressing envelopes for everyone on your list has never been easier. Just download, fill, print on full sheet sticker paper, cut out and place on envelopes! This will save me so much time; I might actually get my cards out before Christmas!

Update: Hurrah!! The download links are back up & running. A giant thank you to Kathleen in Illinois, Lori in Tennessee and Kirsten in Northampton England for making it happen! I have the best readers <3

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! When I checked back into the blog world this afternoon I was upset to find that my download links are no longer working because I've gone over my bandwidth limit on Box.com. I am thrilled that my printables are being shared so much, but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to pay the $99/year upgrade fee until after I had a few sponsors to help offset the cost. So here is my current dilemma - I LOVE sharing and I want to continue giving all of you free printables, but I can't financially afford the online storage fees. So I'm currently waiting to hear back from Box and hopefully everything will be back up in the next few days.

Just to let all of you know, I’m adding a "treat me to a cup of tea" button to the bottom of the page. Contributions are appreciated but are not required. I use to view donate buttons as a form of panhandling, but I’m starting to see the value in them as I’m realizing how much money is involved in running and maintaining a blog.

I appreciate your patience and understanding while I try to resolve this problem. Thank you for being such amazing readers. :)
It's that time of year again - the turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, rolls… yummm!

With only two weeks left until Thanksgiving, now is the time to finalize the guest list, order the turkey, deep clean the house, start planning the menu and deciding who should bring what.
Thanksgiving is a huge undertaking of cleaning, cooking, cooking, and a little more cooking. Hi everyone! Now that Halloween is over and the candy comas have worn off, it's time to pack away the decorations until next year.

Yesterday, I packed up all of my spooky décor and labeled my new orange and purple storage bins. Now I can just read the label on the front of each bin and instantly know everything that is inside! The inventory list lets me know where each container is stored, so no more unstacking, rummaging through and re-stacking!

With prices at their lowest, now is a great time to stock up on everything you’ll need for next year’s Halloween parties. I made a shopping list to help me keep track of my must have Halloween items.

I keep my Décor Inventory and Shopping lists along with extra box labels inside my Holiday Notebook with the rest of my Halloween planners. Always knowing what I have and what I still need to buy before next Halloween, makes my life a lot easier!
I desperately needed one place to corral all of our important items such as keys, wallets, watches, spare change, glasses, phones and outgoing mail. I thought about buying one of those personalized lucite trays that you see on all of the organizing blogs, but they are pricey and I was worried about them scratching. Thrift store shopping it was!

After finding an unfinished wood tray at Goodwill, I had to decide how I was going to turn it into a cute catch-all tray. I could have stenciled a design or covered it with fabric, wallpaper or even washi tape. In the end I decided to paint it white and take a rattan placemat that I already had and cut it to fit the bottom of the tray. Since I didn't need to attach the placemat with glue, I can swap it out with a new one whenever I feel like a change.

Now when my husband gets home from work he has a place to quickly empty all of his pocket litter, best of all everything stays together so his keys, ID badge and safety glasses are no longer cluttering the dining table. I'm one happy wife! Now if I could just get him to hang his coat and put his boots away. :)

Total time: around 3 hours
Total cost: $6
It’s coming.. Fall officially begins this Saturday, September 22. I’m looking forward to the cooler weather, falling leaves, apple cider and most of all, Halloween!
